part 1: response to Chayka's article?

When compared to Chayka’s article on “How nothingness became everything we wanted”, Busta’s article on counterculture discusses visual culture as more diverse and separate from the binary established by companies and movements prior.
Instead it is focused on how the definition of counterculture has changed drastically over the years. I do see examples of personal expressions being co-opted, as personal expression can reach people sharing the same views and beliefs.
A good example of this is fandoms, a subculture where people gush and embrace media and illustrate their love via artwork and pieces of media endorsed by many other fans. As for a counterculture, well I do not believe counterculture to exist, as the status quo in the 21st century has been subverted so much, who's to say there is a culture to counter in the first place? From what the author says about counterculture, yes, I do agree that not a single person is a counterculture, and it is a group. Counterculture started because people had similar ideology and not a person. Counterculture has to be a shared idea. As for the dark forest mentioned in the article, I actually have not experienced such as mentioned. I cannot put my input too much since I have little information on the subject.
